Liposuction Q & A

by Robert Roy Miles, D.O.

What happens during a liposuction procedure?

Liposuction is a procedure that permanently removes targeted fat from your body through suction. Because it’s a somewhat invasive procedure, you have to be under either general anesthesia or have local anesthesia.

Dr. Miles starts by making several small cuts in your skin and inserts thin blunt-tipped tubes. He carefully moves the tubes around to suction fat deposits from under your skin.

Because Dr. Miles has extensive training as a member of the American Society of Liposuction Surgeons, he provides only the most advanced liposuction procedures. Modern ultrasound-assisted liposuction procedures liquefy your fat, making it easier to suction.

Which areas are most common for liposuction?

Dr. Miles can perform a liposuction procedure almost anywhere on your body if you have stubborn fatty deposits. Some of the most common liposuction areas include your:

  • Inner thighs and buttocks
  • Hips and waist
  • Upper arms and back
  • Calves, ankles, and knee
  • Abdomen and flanks
  • Chin and neck

Many women have entrusted Dr. Miles with sculpting their curvy physiques. Dr. Miles specializes in contouring the Spanish waistline, so you can get the hourglass figure you’ve always wanted.

When can I go back to work after liposuction?

The length of time you have to refrain from activities depends on your treatment area and what type of work you perform. Most patients are able to get up and move around the house the same day as surgery, but you should expect to stay home and recover for a few days. You can go back to work and your normal activities as soon as you feel ready, although it may take several weeks.

While you’re recovering, you may have to wear a compression garment for up to one month to aid in the healing process. Because it’s tight, it might be difficult for you to do certain activities or sit for long periods of time. Dr. Miles can give you a timeframe as to when you should be fully recovered, based on your health and your specific procedure.
